HanDBase-Database Solution For Smartphones by @mitchbrevard

Posted by Guest Author @ 3:42 pm in Apple Apps BlackBerry Mac Misc. Palm Pre Windows Windows Mobile iPhone.

Recently introduced to me but one of the oldest mobile app brands out there HanDBase is a seriously impressive database manager. HanDBase is developed by DDH Software. DDH Software creates apps for iPhone, BlackBerry, Palm, Symbian and WinMo devices.

Like I said above I had just recently found out about HanDBase so I went to their site to find out exactly what it is:

"HanDBase is a light and fast relational database manager for desktops, PDAs, and smartphones which offers data entry, searching, sorting, filtering, printing and synchronization across a wide variety of desktop computers, handheld computing devices and smartphones."

There are a lot of personal uses for HanDBase including Shopping Lists, Music & DVD Collections, Project Organizers, Password Manager, Prayer List / Bible Study Notes, To Do Lists, Recipes and Sports Schedules. There are just as many business uses Inventory, Field Surveys, Patient Tracking and Billing, Medical Reference, Project Tracking, Estimates and Time & Billing.

Another really cool feature is the ability for synchronization across multiple smartphone operating systems and also with the desktop. Allowing a business or family that may have countless different devices to stay in sync. Sadly though the only thing they are missing is Android support so hopefully DDH Software is working on that.

The latest build for iPhone (pictured left) includes a new Carbon Fiber theme, new app icon, new security mode to protect specific databases from being accessed via Desktop Connect and New Choose Database file-cabinet screen with collapsing folders Pop Up Bubbles for selecting Views, Popup values, Field and Database actions Databases sorted can now use a right side quick index Run Reports on various field types (with Graphs!) Field Actions Popup: Resize field width, Sort Forward/Reverse, Report and Set Value To Record Action: Set value to- set a field's value for all the records within the current view (great for clearing all checkboxes in a checklist, for example) Scroll fields in the list view by dragging the field name bar right or left Database Actions Popup: Email Database file Switch to and from landscape from almost any screen.

So in closing I would say you should definitely check HanDBase out. DDH Software offers a free trial of HanDBase as well as a nice compatabilty spread sheet. You have nothing to lose.

TetherBerry Is Now Simply Tether & 50% Off by @mitchbrevard

Posted by Guest Author @ 8:03 am in Android Apple Apps BlackBerry Palm Pre Windows Mobile iPhone.

I reviewed TetherBerry (a tethering application that allows you to use your BlackBerry data to surf the net on your PC) back in late November. I gave it glowing remarks for its ease of use and reliability. Well the the folks at TetherBerry decided they no longer wanted to be pigeon holed as just a BlackBerry application so to support their new development plans of creating tethering apps for WinMo, iPhone and Android devices they have dropped the Berry in their name and are now simply Tether.

Our major changes are:
- TetherBerry is now called Tether.  We've secured the domain name Tether.com and all future updates will be available on this website.
- We've updated our website.  Their maybe some kinks here and there, but definitely a lot cleaner.
- Beta testing for an Android Client has begun and we plan to develop for more Smartphones.
- Tether now has Bluetooth capabilities.
- BlackBerry AppWorld has accepted Tether into their marketplace.
- If you are not an existing customer, we've reset your trial so you can try our new version.
- The new Tether interface is easier to use and is faster.
- 50% off from now until January 10th, 2010.

With more than 60,000 downloads in less than 9 months (TetherBerry was launched in March or 09) of their application for BlackBerry I do not think they will have much trouble creating a following with the rest of the smartphone families. They are currently beta testing their Android version so I would not expect a long wait until it is released to the public. So to stay current on all of Tether's latest news be sure to follow them on Twitter and become a fan on Facebook.

Palm With A “Plus” Arrive On Verizon Wireless by @mitchbrevard

Posted by Guest Author @ 8:00 am in Palm Pre.

Verizon is wanting to give all of you that have been crying about wanting a Palm Pre on their network a late Christmas gift. On Thursday with their announcement at CES they made all of their tears dry up. On January 25th VZW will start selling the new Palm® Pre™ Plus and Palm Pixi™ Plus. I myself have not had a lot of hands on time with Palm products but I know that those that love them are rabid.

The Palm Pre Plus will feature a touchscreen in addition to a physical keyboard, 16GB of built in memory for storing apps & media, 3.0 megapixel camera and wifi. The Palm Pixi Plus is built more for the average or first time smartphone user. It features a 2.0 megapixel camera, built in wifi and built in GPS. None of the features or specs really stood out until I read that it will also feature the new Palm mobile hotspot. The Palm mobile hotspot is a webOS app that turns these two devices it WiFi access points capable of running up to 5 devices. WOW! Now to bring you back down from that high keep in mind that each data account is only allowed 5GB a month on Verizon's "unlimited" data plans. So be mindful of what you are doing while connected.

Also webOS is getting some much needed upgrades in February to webOS 1.4. The phone while respond in a much snappier manner and will allow for a better battery life. Something that previous versions of webOS did not allow was video recording but that will soon be a distant memory when 1.4 is released. And finally with 1.4 these smartphones will be able to run should be the first smartphones to have full Flash Support. So users will finally be able to view flash videos on their smartphones.

So in closing while the two phones in my opinion are nothing to exciting the features that will accompany make them a potential buy for a lot of consumers.
