Apple Press Con. Called – No iPhone 4 Recall?
Posted by ParaCAD @ 8:43 pm in Apple News iPhone.
Although Apple has called a press conference tomorrow to discuss well-documented problems with the iPhone 4's antenna and reception, a new report claims that a recall of the handset won't be among the announcements.
Citing a person familiar with the matter, the Wall Street Journal is reporting that Apple doesn't plan to instate a recall of the more than 2 million units it's shipped worldwide thus far.
That same person echoed an earlier report from Bloomberg in claiming that hardware engineers warned chief executive Steve Jobs about the risks of the phone's new external antenna design nearly a year ago, but that Jobs "liked the design so much that Apple went ahead with its development."
The report went on to document how Apple's immense secrecy over new iPhone masked the problem during the company's evaluation process with its carrier partners, as design verification units were disguised as "stealth" phones that obscured their design and some of their functions.
"Those test phones are specifically designed so the phone can't be touched, which made it hard to catch the iPhone 4's antenna problem," the Journal said. The paper added, citing people familiar with the matter, that Apple afforded carriers "limited time to test the iPhone 4 before its June 24 launch" and equipped them with "fewer devices to test than other handset makers."
Although Apple declined to comment on its development methods......................Read More

#uTorrent Launches Remote Control for #iPhone
Posted by ParaCAD @ 9:56 am in Apps iPhone iPod Touch.
BitTorrent Inc. has made the remote access ‘web’ feature of its Falcon client iPhone compatible. uTorrent users can now remotely control their downloads from wherever they are with their iPhone. Torrents can be added, paused and removed using an interface with a look and feel identical to that of the uTorrent application.
The Falcon release is one of the main pillars for uTorrent’s future. Among other things, it allows users to access their downloads from anywhere through a secure web interface. A few weeks ago the uTorrent ‘web’ feature opened up to the public and today the team announced that support for the iPhone has been added.
“In our ever-connected world, users want the ability to control their torrents on the go anytime, anywhere. So, in a continued effort to make our products more accessible we are introducing µTorrent Web for iPhone,” says Simon Morris, BitTorrent’s VP of Product Management.

AT&T News Room – Press Release #iPhone #iPad #Mobile
Posted by ParaCAD @ 7:20 pm in AT&T Apple Misc. News iPad iPhone.AT&T*, the U.S. smartphone leader, today introduced new wireless data plans that make it more affordable for more people to enjoy the benefits of the mobile Internet. Customers can pick the new data plan that best meets their needs – either a $15 per month entry plan or a $25 per month plan with 10 times more data. Current smartphone customers are not required to switch to the new plans, but can choose to do so without a contract extension.
“AT&T helps mobilize everything on the Internet – your favorite web sites, TV shows, music, games and social networks. Virtually everything previously done while sitting at a computer can now be done on the go,” said Ralph de la Vega, president and CEO, AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets. “To give more people the opportunity to experience these benefits, we’re breaking free from the traditional ‘one-size-fits-all’ pricing model and making the mobile Internet more affordable to a greater number of people.”
Each plan includes unlimited access at no additional charge to more than 20,000 AT&T Wi-Fi Hot Spots in the U.S. Customers can also use unlimited Wi-Fi at home, in the office or elsewhere if available. AT&T will also help customers manage their wireless data usage by sending free text messages after customers reach different usage intervals and by providing online tools, including a smartphone app that shows monthly usage information.
The new wireless data plans – including a new tethering option – will be available beginning June 7. Current AT&T voice and texting plans are unchanged.
More Choice
The new AT&T plans provide large amounts of data to enable people to enjoy their favorite online activities:
DataPlus. Provides 200 megabytes (MB) of data – for example, enough to send/receive 1,000 emails (no attachments), plus send/receive 150 emails with attachments, plus view 400 Web pages, plus post 50 photos on social media sites, plus watch 20 minutes of streaming video – for just $15 per month.** This plan, which can save customers up to 50 percent off their wireless data charges, is designed for people who primarily like to surf the web, send email and use social networking apps. If customers exceed 200 MB in a monthly billing cycle, they will receive an additional 200 MB of data usage for $15 for use in the cycle. Currently, 65 percent of AT&T smartphone customers use less than 200 MB of data per month on average.
DataPro. Provides 2 gigabytes (GB) of data – for example, enough to send/receive 10,000 emails (no attachments), plus send/receive 1,500 emails with attachments, plus view 4,000 Web pages, plus post 500 photos to social media sites, plus watch 200 minutes of streaming video – for $25 per month.** Should a customer exceed 2 GB during a billing cycle, they will receive an additional 1 GB of data for $10 for use in the cycle. Currently, 98 percent of AT&T smartphone customers use less than 2 GB of data a month on average.
Tethering. Smartphone customers – including iPhone customers – who choose the DataPro plan have the option to add tethering for an additional $20 per month. Tethering lets customers use their smartphones as a modem to provide a broadband connection for laptop computers, netbooks or other computing devices. Tethering for iPhones will be available when Apple releases iPhone OS 4 this summer.
With the new wireless data plans, pricing for a smartphone voice and data bundle now starts at just $54.99 per month for an individual plan, or $24.99 per month for an additional line on a FamilyTalk plan, $15 per month less than the price of the previous entry level bundle.
For new iPad customers, the $25 per month 2 GB plan will replace the existing $29.99 unlimited plan. iPad customers will continue to pre-pay for their wireless data plan and no contract is required. Existing iPad customers who have the $29.99 per month unlimited plan can keep that plan or switch to the new $25 per month plan with 2 GB of data.
Wi-Fi at 20,000 AT&T Hot Spots
The vast majority of smartphones that AT&T offers have built-in Wi-Fi, which lets the devices automatically switch from the wireless network to a Wi-Fi hotspot without prompting, making Wi-Fi even more convenient and easy to use. This enables customers to use Wi-Fi in the home, office and at public locations where available. Wi-Fi will generally provide consistently fast speeds and does not count against a customer’s monthly data plan usage total. In addition, virtually all AT&T smartphone customers have access at no additional charge to more than 20,000 AT&T Wi-Fi Hot Spots in the U.S. Customers can get more information on how to use Wi-Fi and find the location of AT&T Wi-Fi Hot Spots at www.att.com/wifiaccess.
Monitoring and Managing Usage
To help customers easily check their data usage, AT&T has made the information readily available in a number of ways***:
--Customer Text Notifications On Data Usage. When customers begin to approach their monthly usage limit, AT&T will send three text notifications – after they reach 65 percent, 90 percent and 100 percent of the threshold. Customers will also be sent emails if AT&T has their email address.
--Data Usage Monitoring. Additionally, customers with iPhones and other select devices can use the free AT&T myWireless application to check data usage. The application is available for download in several smartphone app stores. Also, AT&T customers can call *DATA# from their wireless phone to check their data usage for the current billing period. They receive a free text message with their usage information. Customers can also go online to www.att.com/wireless to see all of their usage information, past and present.
--Data Calculator. The easy-to-use online data calculator enables customers to estimate their mobile data usage and get a better sense for which data plan is right for them. It’s located at www.att.com/datacalculator.
Customers can learn more about the new plans online at www.att.com/dataplans, by contacting AT&T customer service at 1-800-331-0500, or by visiting an AT&T retail store.
AT&T expects these new data plans to have minimal revenue impact this year and to not affect previous guidance for 2010.

Smokescreen allows Flash content on iPhone, iPad and iPod #Smokescreen #iPhone #iPod #iPad
Posted by rudeboy @ 10:09 pm in iPad iPhone iPod Touch.Chris Smoaks is working on a solution to view Flash content on the iPhone, iPad and other iDevices. Smoke Screen works in the browser, reads SWF binaries and 'converts' them to animated SVG. Flash-based banner ads appear to work fine, but on web sites with Flash videos and games the performance is subpar.
On Smokescreen.us are two examples of banners. There was already a different solution for Flash sites on your iPhone to view: Cloud Browse. This is an application where the Flash web sites are sent to a server which 'converts' the Flash ot a format the iPhone can handle.

Posted by rudeboy @ 8:51 pm in Cydia iPhone Jailbreak iPod Touch Jailbreak. This is one of those apps that really really makes me wish i still had a Jailbroken iPhone (i don't since i run OS 4 Beta4). It seems that this awesome app just got better, especially lookwise.
What's New:
- Added Activator support, done nicely of course.
- Added back the delivery prefix feature (removed in Release 4.7) - mostly for UK O2 users. So biteSMS now supports the iPhoneDelivery application and Prefixes.
- When pressing Quick List with only one message pending, Quick Reply will now open, so less touch events.
- In the biteSMS app, the contact pictures now have nice rounded corners.
- Improved the speed of touch events and animations when using Quick Reply and Quick Compose buttons.
- Improved Privacy support in the new Quick Reply.
- You can now tap the Quick List icon when a Quick Reply is displayed - this in effect does a Later action for you.
- For Google “ad clicks” that result in the display of a web page we no longer exit out of biteSMS, but instead render the web page inside biteSMS.
- Fixed up bugs with the “Currently Used” messages counter for messages sent via your mobile carrier.
- Fixed up a bunch of other bugs and inconsistences.
Just to let you know that for the upcoming Apple Firmware 4.0 Release in June, biteSMS will be ready! We have completed most of the work, and are in the final testing stages. So expect a biteSMS release 4.9 very soon!
This should be the best, most stable release of biteSMS yet, so thanks for all your support!!!
As always, get this great app and/or update on Cydia.
iPhone 3G to be End of Line ? #iPhone #3G #8GB #Apple #EOL
Posted by rudeboy @ 8:32 pm in iPhone.
With supposedly only 2 weeks to go until Apple is expected to unveil new iPhone 4G hardware, it seems that supplies of the 8GB iPhone 3G are beginning to run out. As you can read on Boy Genius Report here, Apple has stopped shipping the device to the AT&T stores, suggesting that the model is being phased out of production.
We've heard that Apple has stopped shipping iPhone 3G 8GB units to AT&T stores and orders are not being placed for the device. Could this mean we might see the iPhone 3GS drop to $99 and make way for a new model?
Meanwhile, we've read that some countries seems to have shortages as well, for example Australia, where Apple sells iPhones w/o contracts online, the 8GB iPhone is listed as "Currently Unavailable". Similarly, customers looking to order iPhone 3G models in the United Kingdom through carrier O2 similarly appear to be having a difficult time, with a drop-down menu on O2's iPhone ordering page showing only new and reconditioned iPhone 3GS options despite the menu's description noting an iPhone 3G option.
While Apple's exact plans for the next line-up of iPhone models are not yet known, many observers, including analyst Katy Huberty of Morgan Stanley, have suggested that Apple may follow its existing pattern by introducing new hardware in multiple capacities while sliding the existing low-end iPhone 3GS down to the $99 price point currently occupied by the 8 GB iPhone 3G.
